My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia in Kindergarten and has been blessed by the NOW! program at AGC. She is currently a fourth grader reading at a 6th grade level thanks to the NOW! program.

My son could not read despite all the school’s attempts to teach him. I wondered how a smart child could flunk kindergarten. What was I to do? It felt as if I was alone searching for answers to help him and trying many programs that did not give us the results I had hoped for. Alabama Game Changers really helps parents understand what dyslexia is and most importantly what to do. After having a very intensive evaluation that helped us understand his struggles, he completed a portion of the NOW! Programs. Finally, after many attempts with other programs, my child was able to learn to read and be successful in school. This was life changing for him. I will always be entirely grateful and thankful to all those that helped my son and my family along the way.

Life long dyslexic remediated As an adult, I can only imagine what could have been in my life if a program existed that mitigated my challenges caused by being dyslexic. Growing up dyslexic meant you were always trying to avoid reading. The challenge was reading took too much effort so your comprehension was a fraction of what it needed to be. My primary way to learn was by listening and this was problematic since teaching methods all relied on text books to support class instruction. Reading made learning exhausting. If it were not for my parents support and patience I would have not completed college. My parents gave me the strength and self-esteem to know grades were just a means to an end, but were not going to define me as person. However, years later as a successful business person I knew my challenges reading were never addressed. For this reason, I enrolled in the NOW! program. The NOW! program taught my mind how to process language and formed the proper way to decipher words. The program gave me independence, because prior I would get stuck on words, now I figure things out on my own. The impact is amazing, its like a new web formed in my mind that provides the ability to read as if I wasn’t dyslexic. The NOW! Program demonstrated that my lifelong reading challenges could be remediated in five months. Now more than ever I enjoy reading. It is incredible now that we have a nonprofit like Alabama Game Changers within our state that helps struggling readers get these life-changing interventions at an early age!

I wish I had known about the NOW! Program when my son was first diagnosed with dyslexia at age 7! He has done multiple different types of Orton Gillingham and Lindamood-Bell-based reading interventions, occupational therapy, tutoring for writing, as well as all types of techniques that I learned from classes and searching the internet, but still struggled, especially in English class. At age 14, my son completed one session a day after school. He now has more confidence with spelling and reading, is able to tell me about books he reads, remembers details about history lectures, and can carry on conversations with me. I would definitely recommend this program!

There are no words to fully appreciate what Alabama Game Changers has meant to me and my child. I knew early on that something was different. She was not learning at a pace consistent with her intelligence. Despite the best efforts of the school, she just continued to fall further and further behind. We found AGC and what a difference it has made! I had no idea that combining occupational therapy with her reading intervention would be such a powerful combination. This has resulted in a confident young lady, who is ready to be more independent. Her processing speed, motor skills, as well as her reading skills, have increased exponentially. She finally feels like she has the potential to be like every other “normal” (in her words) kid. The staff at AGC have loved her so well. They have accepted her without question and poured positivity into her. There is no better place for a struggling child to get the help that is needed. I wish every child had access to this amazing place with these amazing people.

My daughter enrolled in the NOW! Program in the 6th grade. She completed one session a day during the school year and doubled up over the summer. Her teachers began to notice a difference after a few months. She entered junior high school after completing the first two portions of the program, and she never struggled. She maintains mostly A’s with and occasional B. She receives no accommodations for her dyslexia. My husband and I decided to try the NOW! Program, because we wanted to know that we have turned over every stone. We, as well as our daughter, are so glad we did. Her tutor will check in from time to time just to say “hello”. Overall, it was a very positive experience.

My high school daughter was struggling with focusing in school and wanted to be checked for attention issues. She was upset that her grades were not reflecting all her hard work and effort. I am so grateful for AGC in how they guided us through this process, assessed her attention issues, and helped her find a medication to allow her to focus and reach her potential. AGC has also helped my daughter get the accommodations she needed for taking the ACT. AGC is truly a game changer!

Alabama Game Changers has truly been a “game-changer” for us. Our son struggled with reading, writing, and sensory processing skills. We had been in OT through different agencies since we were 3 years old. After completing the intensive program, our son is now reading, and his writing has drastically improved. We have also seen great improvements in behavioral regulation. Six months ago we went to the dentist and everyone left crying. We went to the dentist again recently and he sat there independently, let them clean his teeth, and even treated a cavity! I am so appreciative of Alabama Game Changers. They have not only changed my son’s life but our whole family dynamic has improved!

On January 4, 2021, My husband and I took the most important step for the immediate well-being as well as the future of our daughter. After being diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dysgraphia, we enrolled our daughter in the Intensive Program at The Morris Center at Alabama Game Changers. She was repeating first grade and reading at a 0.5 Kindergarten level. Her teachers had been giving their all with no progress made. She would sit in class and just look around trying to figure out what to do. She had extreme difficulty trying to put her thoughts on paper. She cried every morning on the way to school, begging me not to drop her off. We would work at least two hours on homework every night. Once enrolled, she attended four sessions of instructional therapy and two hours of occupational therapy daily at the center. Then, it happened! At around the end of the second month in the Intensive Program, she changed. She was showing more confidence. She stopped clinging to any and everyone. She walked through the halls of the center holding her head up high. After four months of the Intensive Program, she went from reading at a 0.5 Kindergarten level to reading at a 2.9 level to now reading at 3.3 or rather a third grade, third-month level. Our daughter never cries about going to school. She only cries if she is sick and is missing school. I never dreamed that she could have so much confidence. Although she has never met a stranger, it is different now. She talks and spends time with people who are important to her. She can now verbally communicate appropriately with others and her confidence keeps growing. Our daughter loved every minute during her time at the center. She loves and misses all therapists and staff. She actually cried two hours upon leaving on her Graduation Day.
